Mouhammad Faye inspired Senegal to an 82-75 triumph over Puerto Rico in Sunday’s Day 2 of the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup Group B in Seville, Spain.
Faye poured in a game-high 20 points for Senegal who won their first World Cup game since 1998.
Four years ago the Senegalese finished winless in five games at Turkey 2010, but this latest win increases the West Africa country’s chances of progressing to the next round of FIBA’s flagship event.
This victory is a major boost for the Senegalese who lost their World Cup opener against Greece on Saturday.
If they won one more game, it would be a new chapter in Senegal Basketball history.

The African champions bounced-back, cutting the deficit to just nine in the final quarter, nevertheless they conceded a 75-62 defeat, their first.

In the final game of the day, hosts Spain trounced the Egypt 91-54.
Senegal will take on Croatia on a crucial game on Monday, and Egypt face France.
